Rami Lasman
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
All my paintings are composed of ninety percent of primary colors. The remaining ten percent are a mixture of secondary and tertiary colors. In my early stages of paintings, I used to sketch my subjects before painting them. Now, most of my paintings are completed a la prima. I did not take anatomy courses, nor did I investigate the mysteries of perspective and color theory. I look at all my subjects with respect to their light values and shapes. I try to use only one brush most of the time. I take pictures of landscapes and sea scenes that stir my emotions. Then I look at the pictures and I paint in my studio at home. As soon as I start painting, my brush takes over. Intuitively I paint my own interpretation of the photographed scenes. The completed work is never a replica of the original picture.
My paintings are based on my natural tendency to live in a dream world. My love for natural scenic surroundings such as landscapes, waterfalls and the sea, gives me the inspiration for my paintings. I was born and lived the first twelve years of my life in Tel Aviv, Israel, a city located on the Mediterranean Sea shore. I suspect that my paintings tend to reflect vague childhood memories. I believe that the expressionist’s painters such as Matisse, Gauguin, Cezanne, etc influenced my style and techniques. My teachers referred to my works as "dream like, naïve and innocent".
My ultimate aim and objective is to create, through colors and peaceful scenes, a happy and a relaxed stage for the viewer.
